And the grinding machine never stops… Or so it seems: Rober (guitar, bass) and Dopi (drums, vocals) may be busy churning out old-school death-metal (BANISHED FROM INFERNO), doom-rock (DEADMASK) or an electric mix of D-beat and raw black-metal (DISHAMMER) but their bleakest and longest running band to date (seventeen years and counting!) MACHETAZO is always around, lurking in the shadows and ready to strike.
Whereas their latest MLP (‘Necrocovered’) featured only personal reinterpretations of six black, thrash or death classics, their brand-new EP ‘Desolación Mental’ contains the band’s three first original compositions since their ‘Mundo Cripta’ full-length back in 2008 and this is maybe some of the best material yet: besides two grinding shots, the title-track itself is the kind of sludgy dirty little fucker venturing on the verge of doom only those rotten Spaniards seem to be able to properly evoke.
It’s also both their first collaboration with DOOMENTIA and the first of series of three releases to be unleashed by the Galicians grinders this spring. Recorded last December, limited to 500 copies only and with a fitting and morbid coverart by Valencia’s well-respected plastic artist and activist Avelino Saavedra, ‘Desolación Mental’ reeks and shits of REPULSION, AUTOPSY, IMPETIGO and overall the original spirit of trigger and trend free grind-fuckin’-core!
